I figured I'd start a thread dedicated to people who want to talk about keeping fit, working out/training, cutting/bulking, nutrition, motivation, etc.
I'm huge on health and fitness, so if anyone has any questions, I'd be glad to help.

I'll start with myself.
I'm 5'10, 160 pounds and 10% bodyfat. I've been lifting for just over a year and I'll be going to university for Kinesiology next September.

I'm 5'11, 160 Lbs. Bodyfat? I have no idea. I'm skinny, that's all I know.
I just joined a gym and have been trying to get into lifting but I keep tearing up my muscles. I have no idea why, bad form maybe. I don't think i've been using too much weight.
Whenever i've used the curling bar, it has really ****ed me up so I stay away from it. My arms get locked up the next day and I can't straighten them, which lasts at least a few days.
I switched up my routine and did fine last time I went but I did dead lifts and kind of felt a bit of pain in my lower back. I probably just need to work more on technique.

It has nothing to do with lifting improperly from the sounds of it! If it's your first time working out in a long time (or even ever), your muscles will always be more sore for a few days after the workout as opposed to someone who lifts regularly. The amount of soreness varies by each person, but it should decrease from the point where you can extend your arms. I go through that whenever I don't workout for a few weeks, so it's definitely not uncommon. As for the deadlifts, they work your lower back so it could be muscle soreness due to the workout. But be careful though, deadlifts can be one of the most 'dangerous' workouts. Also, try increasing your protein intake. If you need help figuring out how much you should be eating, let me know and I can definitely help you out there.

I had a PE teacher that always did deadlifts in our weight room at school. If I remember right, he gave himself a hernia from it. So i've been a bit wary about doing them but every guide I find about lifting for beginners recommends doing them.I have no idea what exact amount of protein I should be eating, so that would help. I just know I need to be eating a lot of it and eat more food, in general.

At 160 pounds you should be striving for around 2400 calories a day. Try to get 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. It sounds like a lot but it can be done. .8 grams is the minimum I would recommend.

So if i'm still sore, do I still go to the gym and lift more or should I wait till the pain is gone? Or just do lifts that work on different muscles until the others heal up?

Do you have a workout routine, or do you just do whatever? If you need help with a workout routine I can most definitely help you out with that.

Do you have a workout routine, or do you just do whatever? If you need help with a workout routine I can most definitely help you out with that. I'm trying to find a routine that I like. I started watching strengthcamp on youtube so I went with this video. Tonight I did Deadlifts, Dips and threw in ab machine and other ab exercise. Friday was going to do the Squats and Chin Ups. Do you recommend something else?
